Fernbank Museum of Natural History
Our Place in the Cosmos
Client/Company: Fernbank Museum of Natural History
Project Description: Our Place in the Cosmos, part of the Star Gallery at the Fernbank Museum of Natural History in Atlanta, Georgia, invites visitors to explore humanity’s connection to the cosmos. As they step into an immersive storytelling experience, they learn about the origins of the universe, the formation of cosmic features, and how Earth fits into the picture. Under a canopy of stars inspired by the Georgia sky, visitors also discover how people throughout history have observed and interpreted the stars, using them to navigate, inspire stories and traditions, and explain the world around them.
Julie’s Role: Copyeditor
The museum’s internal team already had the exhibit and content mapped out with feedback from their science subject matter experts. My job was to take the first draft of their script and polish it. I tightened up and clarified the language, made sure it had a consistent voice, and conducted a full copyedit. We went through a few rounds of revisions to ensure that my interpretation of the content was still scientifically sound while remaining accessible and welcoming to the museum’s diverse audiences.
